Credentials.

I was trained at Northeastern University in Boston, MA where I received a Master's in Science in Counseling Psychology. I was trained in the Ecological Model, that is, the individual is interconnected to one's world in the context of the layers of one's family, social networks, community, school networks, business networks, and the greater culture. I was also trained in and influenced by Family Systems, Humanist or Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, among others. I also strongly believe in the holistic approach to health: caring for soul, mind and body to stay balanced.

I have been licensed as a Mental Health Counselor since 2001. This means I completed a Master's degree, passed an exam from the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), completed a one year clinical internship, then completed 3600 hours of face to face contact hours under the supervision of a licensed clinician, and 100 hours of individual supervision. I also complete yearly Continuing Education Requirements to maintain my licensure.

Much of my work has been with adolescents, women and families. I have been in private practice since 2009. I worked for 12 years as a therapist and clinical supervisor at the Seattle Children's Home, a residential treatment center. This work taught me the power of resilience and perseverance. I helped clients and their families create goals and objectives to reunite and put their lives on a positive track towards growth and renewal, even following extended periods of crisis. I am adept at both behavioral management plans for daily life, and at working with individuals and families to reclaim cohesion and interpersonal connections.

Prior to my work with adolescents, I worked with women with histories of trauma and abuse in Boston, and with adults in a 28 day rehab to recover from drug and alcohol use. I have helped individuals begin healing from both short term and long term trauma by feeling safe in relationships, remembering and mourning losses, and reconnecting with their communities. Often trauma and addiction overlap, and much of the work in recovery has included resolving traumatic memories and accompanying mood disturbances.
